Challenge
Bratislava operates a Metropolitan Optical Network (MAN), the backbone of the capital's digital infrastructure. The network required expansion, modernization, and continuous professional maintenance under a single framework contract that would secure stability for years to come.
For a municipality it is critical to have a partner with in-house staff, in-house equipment, and the capacity to respond, not a chain of outsourcers without commitment.
Solution
Omnius won the tender and has been delivering the following since May 2023:
- Expansion of the metropolitan network by building new optical routes that increase capacity and data transmission speed
- Regular infrastructure maintenance ensuring long-term network stability and performance
- Optical cable blowing including the longest route at approximately 11 km
- Optical cable splicing ensuring fast and reliable data transmission
- OTDR certification testing verifying the quality and integrity of optical routes
- Installation of active equipment, testing, and integration with existing systems
Top-tier equipment used
- MaxTester OTDR MAX-730C (1310/1550 nm + 1625 nm), advanced optical reflectometer
- Optical cable blowers and splicers
- Compressors and diesel generators for remote locations
- Service vehicle fleet equipped with all necessary tools
Result
The city gained a stable technology backbone for its digital services, from traffic systems through camera systems to smart city data. The framework agreement worth €2,760,000 guarantees 4 years of continuous development and maintenance without changing vendors.
This project confirmed that Omnius has the capacity and qualifications to manage strategic infrastructure for the capital city.
